IMC-USA condemns Jaipur blasts; Demands transparent investigation of the incident

Indian Muslim Council - USA an advocacy group dedicated to safeguarding India 's pluralist and tolerant ethos denounced the bomb blasts in Jaipur, the capital of the northern State of Rajasthan .

IMC-USA appealed for peace and urged all Indians to practice restraint and to not let the perpetrators of these atrocious crimes succeed in dividing Indians along religious and ethnic lines.

According to the current news reports, five bomb blasts have killed 80 people and scores have been injured. The blasts transpired in the crowded markets in a concurrent fashion within a span of ten minutes.

IMC-USA Rights Literacy Project

Indian Muslim Council-USA recognizes that education about constitutional Rights is an important tool for empowerment of every community. The goal of IMC-USA is to empower Muslims in India. Keeping with its goals, IMC-USA in partnership with Global Media Publications, New Delhi has embarked on the Rights Literacy Project to make Legal Education available in the vernacular languages spoken by Muslims in India.

Depending on the local demand, IMC-USA identified Urdu, Gujarati, Bengali, Assamese Telugu and other vernacular languages spoken by Muslims for translation and publication. The booklets cover much needed topics in the prevailing socio-political environment that are relevant to Muslims and other minority communities in India.

IMC-USA Marks Sixth Anniversary of Gujarat Massacre with Awareness Campaign

The Indian Muslim Council's Maryland/Virginia Chapter hosted Father Cedric Prakash, on Saturday, March 22, in Richmond, VA and on Sunday, March 23, in Baltimore, MD.

Father Prakash is a jesuit priest and founder of PRASHANT, a Gujarat based Jesuit Center for Human Rights, Justice and Peace. He is a fearless and outspoken critic of the Gujarat Government, which is widely believed to be behind the massacre of more than two thousand Muslims and responsible for rendering thousands of others homeless in 2002.

IMC-USA Urges AP Govt. to Take Action on Report Confirming Torture of Youth in Hyderabad

Indian Muslim Council – USA (http://www.imc-usa.org), an advocacy group dedicated towards safeguarding India’s pluralist and tolerant ethos, urges action from all those who believe in justice to demand the Andhra Pradesh state government to outline what actions will be taken to address the findings of the report submitted by L. Ravi Chander, Advocate Commissioner, to the AP Minorities Commissions.

In response to the illegal detention and torture of Muslim youth in Hyderabad by state police in the aftermath of the August 25th bombings the AP Minorities Commission appointed advocate L Ravi Chander to investigate these claims. An interim report a month later confirmed abuse of power by the police.

A full report of the investigation including interviews with 20 detainees was submitted to minorities Commission in October 2008.

Indian Muslim Council-USA (http://www.imc-usa.org), an advocacy group dedicated towards safeguarding India's pluralist and tolerant ethos, congratulates all Indians, including those living overseas, on the occasion of India's 58th Republic Day.

India obtained its independence on August 15, 1947 but the Constitution of India came into effect on January 26, 1950. Every year this day is celebrated as ‘The Republic Day’ and is a national holiday in India . This day marks the transition of India from a British Dominion to a Republic with the adoption of the Constitution of India.
