IMC-USA celebrates India's Independence Day, turns seven on August 15th

Indian Muslim Council - USA (IMC-USA: http://www.imc-usa.org/), an advocacy group working toward safeguarding India's pluralist and tolerant ethos, extends its best wishes to all Indians on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of India's independence. IMC-USA calls on all Indians to renew their commitment to make India a nation that is a beacon of freedom and prosperity for all.

August 15th, 2009 also marks the seventh anniversary of the Indian Muslim Council - USA. In the last seven years, IMC-USA has worked with various Indian organizations of different persuasions to advance the cause of social justice and communal harmony.

Indian American group is concerned that AP police may have acted without due process

Indian Muslim Council-USA (http://www.imc-usa.org), an advocacy group dedicated towards safeguarding India's pluralist and tolerant ethos, is concerned that the Andhra Pradesh police may have acted without due process in transferring custody of the suspect arrested at Hyderabad airport without obtaining a transient warrant from an appropriate court.
 
According to news from Hyderabad on Jul 19, 2009 Shaukatullah Ghori, was arrested as he arrived at the Rajiv Gandhi International airport on suspicions of his involvement in Akshardham temple attack. News reports quote police that Ghori was immediately handed over to Gujarat state police.

IMC-USA Welcomes Supreme Court Directive on Fast-track Trials for 2002 Gujarat Pogrom Cases

Indian Muslim Council-USA (http://www.imc-usa.org), an advocacy group dedicated towards safeguarding India's pluralist and tolerant ethos, welcomes the supreme courts directive on fast-track trials and the probe into Narendra Modi's role in 2002 Gujarat pogroms by SIT.

Rasheed Ahmed, President of IMC-USA, said “For minorities in India it seems Supreme Court is the last hope to extract justice for their grievances. Although justice delayed is justice denied in most cases, this is lot better than the current state of impunity for some government officials and some in law and order community.”

Ahmed further added that “The victims of Gujarat would have preferred these cases tried in a more neutral state given the diminished level of confidence in the government machinery of Chief Minister Narendra Modi”.
